Teaching Philosophy

The Three T’s – Technique, Theory and Timing! When studying music, we will look through the lens of the Three T’s. Whether it’s simple or complex, the Three T’s will be guideposts for our learning.

Brendon Lally is an online guitar, bass, drum, and piano teacher. He is based in the Ann Arbor, Saline, Dexter, and Ypsilanti area.

Technique

How You Play”

Your hand, arm and back posture are important to consider. From something that seems small like where you pluck a string or wear your instrument on your shoulder can make a big difference. Technique can help build the foundations for your musicianship, so let's work on this right away...

Brendon Lally includes music theory in all of his instrumental lessons. He is based in the Ann Arbor, Saline, Dexter, and Ypsilanti area.

Theory

What You Play”

Music theory is plain and simple knowing what you are doing. We can use theory in all aspects of playing and learning! From knowing scales to deciding on harmony, theory is an easy way to unify your musical thoughts. A useful phrase that I like to say is "Say it and play it.”

Brendon Lally teaches his guitar, bass, drum, and piano students how to play with a metronome. He is based in the Ann Arbor, Saline, Dexter, and Ypsilanti area.

Timing

When You Play”

Timing is everything! Can we play ahead of the beat, behind or right on the beat? Can we count well in our practice and performance? Can we read rhythms? The answer is YES! A useful phrase that I like to say is "Can't count, can't play.”

Routing an audio interface into your computer and then using it in our sessions makes you sound great!

Zoom will recognize your audio interface and you can select it for use under audio settings.
